ROYAL BRITISH LEGION - PITSFORD BRANCH
We at the Pitsford Branch endeavour to keep the work of the Royal British Legion in the public eye and we are very well supported by the residents of our village. The work of the RBL is well known on a national level but many may not be aware of the general structure of branches. Our branch number is BR0234 and we are one of 33 branches in the County, our County office being at the drill hall in Barrack Road. Northamptonshire share a regional administration centre at Aylesbury where we have a drop-in centre, where service veterans requiring help can call in for help and advice at any time.
The principal fundraising work is done through the Poppy Appeal of which most people are aware. We try to visit every house in the village during the appeal and the Pitsford Branch also looks after Holcot. We in the branches also do our own fundraising events and you will probably have seen our advertising for our Golf Day (this year on the 22 June) our Garden Party (this year on 29th July) and our Christmas Dinner (this year on December 15th) which will be held at the Griffin.
The money we raise in our branch also belongs to the Royal British Legion but we are allowed to use it to assist ex-service veterans, their widows and dependants, at our discretion. The nearest Royal British Legion home for ex-service veterans is Galanos House, at Southam in Warwickshire and we make regular contributions to them. In 2017 we gave £1,500 towards the work of the Battle Back Centre at Lilleshall. We have also have given money to aid the work of the National Arboretum. If you have never been, I would strongly advise you to visit this wonderful place, which is situated near Litchfield.
You do not have to be ex-service to be a member of the Royal British legion so, should you wish to get involved or have any questions, please feel free to contact John Hancock, Chairman (880407), Sue Mead, Treasurer (880854) or Sarah Thompson, Secretary (880827). We generally meet at the Griffin at 7pm on the first Wednesday of the month and you can make further enquiries there if you wish to come along.
